STATISTICS-MESOTHELIOMA

1.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported in Jul 2004 that 1,493 people died from asbestos in 2000, compared with 77 in 1968

2. Asbestos-related deaths have overtaken those of black-lung disease, reflecting in part the decline of the coal mining industry.

3. Asbestos usage increased substantially after World War II and peaked in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
