PLEURAL MESOTHELIOMA

1. Pleural Mesothelioma is the most common type of Mesothelioma cancer.

2. A thin membrane between the chest cavity and the lungs, known as the ‘Pleura’, is affected in this type of cancer and thus gets its name. The tissues lining (or covering) the lungs are called the pleura.3. There are two pleura and thus called as pleural membranes. The gap between them is called the pleural space. The pleura are fibrous sheets which help to protect the lungs. They produce a lubricating fluid that fills the gap between the two pleura. This helps the lungs to move smoothly in the chest when they are inflating and deflating as we breathe.

4. To sum it up we can say that the function of this membrane is to provide a lubricated and smooth surface between the chest and the lungs to allow smooth movement.
4. Pleural Mesothelioma is also commonly known as lung cancer. It can also affect the sheet of tissue covering the heart i.e pericardium.Pericardium protects the heart and allows it to move smoothly within the sac.

5. Symptoms of Pleural Mesothelioma do not occur for 30 to 40 years after exposure to asbestos. 6. Known exposure should be enough for one to see a physician regularly.
