DIAGNOSIS-ASBESTOS RELATED DISEASE

1. It was in 1924 that the first diagnosis of asbestos triggered illness was made. A woman who was working with asbestos since the age of 13 died at the age of 33. An English doctor who determined the cause of her death named it asbestosis. With this discovery, a research was carried out on asbestos and 25% of people working in asbestos mines in England were found afflicted with asbestos related lungs disease.

2. It was in 1931 that laws were passed to increase ventilation and make asbestosis an excusable work related disease.

3. Further It was in 1962 that a Dr Mc Nulty made another diagnosis of the asbestos related to disease which can cause severe disfigurement and impairment of the lungs. People suffering from the fatal disease suffer from breathing problems, abnormal blood clotting, abdominal pain, significant, weight loss and high fever.

4. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has devised rules and regulations to help mine and shipyard workers from transitory exposures to asbestos and help win the race against this disease.

5. Mine workers working in hazardous asbestos environments are urged to wear protective clot help avoid inflicting their loved ones with cancerous effects of asbestos fibers. OSHA urges exposed workers to bathe daily to remove any traces of the cancerous silicate like fiber.

6. Regular check ups are important as a physician may be able to diagnose the disease at an early stage.

7. The asbestos related cancer of Mesothelioma usually takes its toll on the individual after 20 to 30 yrs. During this time the individual may become the victim of serious cough breathing problems.
